2021 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E Hybrid Coupe
Though the Porsche Cayenne has been around for almost 20 years, the more stylish Coupe version arrived just last year with the 3rd gen Cayenne. And, now that this 2020 Turbo S E Hybrid version has arrived, things are really getting exciting.
It’s all about that powertrain, which starts with a 541–horsepower twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8; add to that a 100-kW electric motor, and you’ve got an SUV which pegs the style-meter just as quickly as it spins the tach up.
And if you’re not interested in hitting 60 in 3.6–seconds in your SUV, know that the first 12–miles of your daily driving can be done strictly with battery power.
Coupe SUVs are a bit of a form over function exercise, and it really works here, as the steeply sloping roof-line just adds to the Cayenne’s jacked-up sports car appeal.
Turbo S E Hybrid upgrades include 21-inch AeroDesign wheels, and white brake calipers. However, the available Lightweight Sport package shaves off about 70-lbs. by replacing those wheels with 22-inch GT Designs, making the roof out of carbon fiber, and adding a Sport Exhaust system with black tail pipes.
No PDK here in the utilities, but the 8-speed Tiptronic S performs well whether you’ve got your foot to the floor, or are making inputs as gently as possible. The shifts between engine and battery power are equally smooth.
Inside, Porsche’s Advanced Cockpit display gets updated with a power meter, as well as a Hybrid Assistant.
Likewise, the Sport Chrono Package’s steering wheel-mounted drive mode selector is revised with E-Power, Hybrid Auto, E-Hold, and E-Charge modes added to Sport and Sport Plus; aided by a 3-chamber air suspension, 48-volt active roll stabilization Dynamic Chassis Control, and even optional rear-axle steering.
The interior as a whole, is a very luxurious place for four; though you can opt for the Cayenne SUV’s 3-place rear bench if you need five seat belts.
The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe is on sale now, with a hefty starting price around $165,000. But hey, at least all-wheel-drive is standard.
And we’ll have more Quick Spins...soon!
