Ever since the Mustang Mach-E hit the streets, it’s this car that we’ve been waiting for, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition; and now we’re finally behind the wheel for an exclusive First Drive.

The Mach-E GT gets dual motor all-wheel-drive standard, with 480-horsepower and 600 lb-ft. of torque. Just for comparison sake, the current Mustang GT V8 Coupe has similar horsepower, but 180 less lb-ft. of torque.

Performance Editions get recalibrated motors that deliver an additional 34 lb-ft. of torque, as well as a track-oriented setup for the all-wheel-drive system providing better grip and 3.5-second 0-60s.  Plus, red Brembo brake calipers behind unique 20-inch wheels with summer performance tires, and MagneRide Damping.

Brian Robinson: “In the Mustang world, the step up from the standard EcoBoost to the GT, is a significant one, but here in the Mach-E GT, especially the Performance Edition, that step up is more like Willy Wonka’s elevator that blasts you through the roof and opens up a whole new world of performance to you.”

It’s quite exhilarating behind the wheel.  We’d like to say it feels just like a Mustang GT Coupe, but truth is, it’s nothing close. It’s actually far better than that.  Immense power arrives immediately when you ask for it, and the all-wheel-drive and summer performance tires deliver levels of grip never before seen in a street-friendly Mustang.

But that’s just for starters. Deliveries are being made now with prices for the GT starting around $60,000 before tax incentives and an additional 5-grand for the Performance Edition.
