Midsize family sedans are out of favor these days, but Subaru is standing by the segment with the all-new 2020 Subaru Legacy. Since arriving 30-years ago, the Legacy’s all-weather traction has made it a stand out. For 20-20 all-wheel drive is naturally still standard… and with it more substance.

A heavily revised 182-horsepower 2.5-liter flat-4 is still the base engine and handles daily driving just fine. Subaru ditched the 6-cylinder option… bringing back a torquier 260-horsepower 2.4-liter turbo-4 for the first time since 2012. Both work with a CVT. The ride improves with a new suspension and the recently introduced Subaru Global Platform.

This 7th generation Legacy has a 70% stiffer body plus its lost weight. It’s 38 pounds lighter. Pair that with an updated torque vectoring system and a 45% reduction in body roll and you have the best ride yet.

There’s a little more space in the quietier cabin. The new 11-point-6-inch tablet-style STARLINK info-tainment screen handles most duties once reserved for buttons. Standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology including emergency braking and first time Lane Centering are ready when needed.

The 2020 Subaru Legacy makes a strong case for buying a mid-size sedan. They’re at dealers now starting at under $23,000.
