Porsche has taken the 911 to amazing heights over the years, and there are seemingly endless variations on the 911 theme. Well, we may have a new favorite, after a Quick Spin in this 2020 911 Carrera 4S.

The 4S doesn’t stand out as much as before, as now all 992 Carreras have the widebody treatment that used to come only with all-wheel-drive. In fact, the 4S is now simply a Carrera S with all-wheel-drive, much like you can get a pickup truck as a 4X2 or a 4X4.

Inside the 4S has the same high-quality feel, and is more beautiful than ever.

That’s all well and good, but we didn’t bring it all the way down to Savannah, Georgia just to look at it.

So, we dialed up Sport+ and got to work on the corners of Roebling Road Raceway. The benefits of all-wheel-drive are well documented; but specifically, in this case, it’s more grip for cornering and for launching.

Of course, there’s the all-weather aspect as well. And in the interest of ratcheting up performance, the front differential unit of the new 4S gets beefier clutch discs and is now water-cooled.

Same 443-horsepower turbo-6 engine as the Carrera S for power, with 8-speed PDK standard; which will get you to 60 in 3.2-seconds. A 7-speed manual is now available as a no cost option.

It’s hard to exaggerate just how capable and easy to drive this new generation of 911 is. And adding all-wheel-drive just increases capability without detracting from the driving experience in any way. All typical Porsche.

Carrera 4S pricing starts around $121,000, and if you can handle that, they’re on sale now.
