Lamborghini has been teasing us with rumors of a super sport utility vehicle since 2012. That promise is now a reality. Our first turn behind the wheel of the radical…for them…2019 Lamborghini Urus was in Southern California… both on and off-road… plus hot laps around Thermal Raceway.

Power pours from a 650 horsepower 4-liter twin-turbo V8 coupled to an 8-speed paddle shift transmission. All-wheel-drive and four-wheel steering plant the power down, providing for tenacious grip. Six drive modes set the Urus up to tackle street, track, sand, snow and everything in-between. Then there’s even EGO mode, for your own unique suspension, steering and shift choices.

“The Urus performs just as dynamically as any performance car Lamborghini makes, cornering is very flat, there is some turbo lag on initial tip-in, but power builds with a’s a very exciting car to drive.”

The Urus is designed from the ground up to be an everyday, all-weather, ultra-high performance vehicle. While we didn’t tackle any serious off-road trails with it, the suspension soaks up moderate ruts and bumps with the best of them, delivering a surprisingly smooth ride on the washboard trails we encountered. On the pavement, that translates to crisp handling without harshness… and inside the well-insulated cabin… a glorious exhaust note to spur you on.

The 2019 Lamborghini Urus is on sale now, starting at around $200,000.
