When it comes to getting the job done, the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty is up to the challenge. We drove tall in the saddle of this F-250 SRW 4x4 crew cab King Ranch. With its first ground up redesign since 1999, weight drops by 350-pounds, thanks to an aluminum body and high-strength steel frame.

As before both gas and diesel V8s provide the force. We chose the 440-horsepower Power Stroke turbo diesel tied to a 6-speed automatic, which gave a steady stream of thrust through quick shifts. The F-250 handles the 925 lb.-ft. of torque with confidence and no nonsense; maximum payload is over 7,600 pounds; conventional trailer tow 21,000 pounds.

On the road we found turn-ins were quicker than we expected thanks to adaptive steering, but it can still be a handful.  Inside it’s quiet, and very luxurious in top trims. New technology includes adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation, lane keeping alert, and Blind Spot Information System with trailer tow.

So the 2017 Ford F-250 adds smarts and remains the benchmark for heavy-duty pickups. On sale now, pricing begins at under $33,000.
