Ahead of the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, Volkswagen has unveiled the 2025 Tiguan. This utility is their best-selling model in the U.S., and it has been redesigned in a bid to retain that status and better compete in such a hot segment.

The new Tiguan rides on Volkswagen’s MQB evo platform, encased by new bodywork akin to what’s been seen on the recently refreshed Taos and the all-electric ID.4. The LED elements, including the available lightbar stretching between the front headlights, are very much modern Volkswagen, as is the lower opening grille. The Tiguan’s wheelbase has grown slightly, though the rear overhang has been shortened; overall, we expect it to feel very much the same on the road.

Size-wise, at least. We’re hoping for a little extra pep in its step thanks to an updated engine. The 2.0-liter turbo-four is back, but it grinds a little extra pepper, now rated at 201 horsepower total. A 17-HP gain isn’t massive, but we think it’ll be noticeable considering an overall weight savings of 170 pounds, achieved largely through aluminum suspension components and high-strength, hot-formed steel used in the body. That should also help fuel economy some, though EPA estimates are yet to be announced. We also say goodbye to the available 3rd-row as all Tiguans now come exclusively as 2-row models.

The cabin is appropriately Volkswagen, starting with a standard 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring their MIB4 operating system. It can be upgraded to a 15-inch display, though the 10-and-a-quarter-inch digital gauge readout is standard on all trims. Unlike the steering column mounted units in VW’s electrics, this screen is dash mounted; what is column mounted is the new gear selector, making room on the center console for more storage and a dial selector. It can be used for simple functions like volume and drive modes, and select between different “Atmospheres.” That’s just a fancy way of saying ambient lighting and audio settings that can be tailored to fit your mood.

Some available features include a head-up display to complement the digital gauges, an upgraded ambient lighting system with 30 colors, massaging front seats, heated outboard rear seats and a heated steering wheel. As you can imagine, these features are unlocked the farther up the trim ladder you climb.

What’s gifted to all players right from the start is a number of safety features. For starters, four new airbags for 10 total throughout the cabin. Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE Level 2 assistance is also standard, so things like semi-automated driving, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist are all included, just to name a few.

You may be asking at what all these features, encased by a new design and powered by an updated engine, add to the MSRP. Well, availability and pricing are yet to be confirmed, but we’ll know more when we get closer to launch.
