“In the three years that the Ford Maverick has been on sale, it has been so popular that Ford has had trouble keeping up with production. I mean who wouldn’t want a small, fuel efficient truck? Well for 2025, the Ford Maverick gets even better. I’m here in Detroit for a First Look.”

This wasn’t the case last year but for 2025, the 2.5-liter hybrid engine returns to being the Maverick’s standard offering. It still sees the same specs, 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque, but the eCVT is revised with a new case, updated motor and wiring. But that’s not all…

“So I’m going to start off with the biggest news here in the 2025 Maverick and that’s the fact that you can get the hybrid powertrain with optional all-wheel drive. That’s right, I know so many of you have been waiting. And not only that! You can get it with all-wheel drive plus the 4K tow package which means you can tow up to 4,000-lbs. So…hybrid, all-wheel drive, tow up to 4,000-lbs…what more could you want?”

That powertrain combo is available on XL, XLT, & Lariat and Ford expects for it to see up to 40 miles-per-gallon in the city, which is only 2 MPGs less than front-wheel drive configurations.

You can still opt for the 2.0-liter EcoBoost if the hybrid isn’t your thing. 238 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque can be put down through an 8-speed automatic in either front- or all-wheel drive. Standard payload capacity for the Maverick is 1,500-lbs and max towing is 2,000-lbs.

Looks wise, you’ll notice a new headlight design that’s giving F-150 “lite” along with a redesigned grille and front bumper for an overall cleaner look. No styling changes in the rear and the only bed size is still 4 and a half feet.

There are few changes in color options including the addition of the Ford favorite, “Eruption Green”, which is now available for the first time on Maverick…but for one year only. The Black Appearance package also returns and is available on XLT or Lariat trims.

17-inch steel wheels are still standard but new 19-inch wheels are available.

“The interior layout of the Maverick remains the same. It’s got that nice open concept feel to it with lots of storage space. But we have this new 13.2-inch touchscreen, it’s now running SYNC 4, and is standard across all trims. This was arguably one of the weakest points of the previous Maverick so it’s really great to see a nice, modern infotainment system in an entry-level truck.”

Plus wireless smartphone integration is now standard and very welcomed.

XLT has an updated interior color scheme that now includes Grabber Blue accents while the Lariat goes upscale with a Smoked Truffle theme accompanied by bronze accents.

We mentioned the 4K tow package earlier and that now comes with Ford’s ProTrailer Back Up Assist and ProTrailer Hitch Assist.

The off-road oriented Tremor returns but now as a trim level positioned at the top of the Maverick lineup. It comes only with the EcoBoost engine, an upgraded all-wheel drive system, larger cooling, a slight lift, rear locker, front bumper for better approach angle, 17-inch wheels, Goodyear Territory All-Terrain tires, and a new 360 degree camera for better views of the trail.

The 2025 Ford Maverick will have a starting price of $27,890 after destination. Deliveries will begin later this fall but order books officially open on August 1st, so you can head over to your local Ford dealer to be one of the first in line.

“We’ll have more on Ford’s popular small truck coming soon, right here on MotorWeek!”
