2025 RAM Heavy Duty
In the Heavy-Duty Pickup truck arena, if you’re not constantly improving your product, you’re falling behind; as power numbers and tow ratings continue to escalate at a rapid pace.
That brings us to the new 2025 Ram Heavy Duty which we just got a chance to sample recently in Nevada and Arizona, taking some runs up the infamous Davis Dam Grade.
Diesel remains king in Heavy Duty world, and the big news here is that the standard output version of their 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel has been eliminated. This leaves only the high-output version. That means all Deisel Ram HDs work with 430-horsepower (10 more than last year) and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, the highest standard rating among Heavy Duties.
The 6.4-liter HEMI gas V8 with 405-horsepower and 429 lb-ft. of torque remains the standard engine.
Both work with a brand new 8-speed TorqueFlight transmission, which allowed them to scale back the amount of available rear gear ratios, all diesels now coming with a 3.42; while HEMIs still get a choice of 3.73 or 4.10.
Max tow rating is 20,000-lbs for the 2500; up to 36,610 for the 3500. And all now come with a column shifter, keeping it consistent across the board.
“If you do a lot of towing, you know it’s about more than just having big power to move lots of weight. It’s the overall experience, and if things aren’t set up properly, it can be a white-knuckle nightmare. That’s obviously not the case here in the Ram 2500; this thing is built to tow. It’s got all of that torque, and super beefy chassis, but really it’s everything else that goes with that; the new 8-speed transmission is phenomenal, the smart exhaust braking, everything that goes into the tow/haul mode, it all works together to provide just an extremely stress free towing experience, no matter how much weight you’re pulling.”
The updated interior looks great and can be as basic or as over the top with features as you want. With prices varying from a base Ram 2500 Tradesman at around $46,000 to the top 3500 Limited Longhorn for just over $75,000. There are plenty of options in between of course, but believe it or not, optioning one up to 6-figures is not all that difficult.
We’ll have much more on the 2025 Ram lineup of Heavy-Duty haulers soon, right here on MotorWeek.
