Earlier this year we acquainted ourselves with the refreshed 992.2 Porsche 911 not just in base Carrera form, but the all-new hybrid GTS variant as well. But now it’s back to basics as we were invited to Northern Georgia for a First Drive in the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T.

The 2025 Carrera T is still powered by the standard 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat 6 with 388 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. The update is how that power is delivered to the rear wheels. A 6-speed manual transmission replaces the previous 7-speed unit with Porsche citing weight savings and precision as the motivation for dropping that final overdrive gear. But they went even further by eliminating the option for a PDK automatic, so all 2025 Carrera Ts will be sold with a manual transmission.

At just over 3,300 pounds, the T Coupe is the lightest Carrera model, but 2025 sees the addition of a T Cabriolet for those who like a little Vitamin D with their Carrera T.

Model-specific exterior features include, Vanadium Grey side mirror covers, wheels, decals and badging as well as black stainless steel tail pipes. There’s also these little manual shift-gate stickers on the rear windows.

Those of course refer to this manual shifter that now greets the driver’s hand with a walnut ball. Elsewhere inside there are the 992.2 upgrades like a fully digital gauge screen and push button start. Rear seats are omitted as standard but can be optioned back in.

My test car had the optional Race-Tex seats with black plaid inlays that complemented the Carrera T Interior package, which includes Gentian Blue stitching, seatbelts and trim ring for the sport chrono clock.

This car also sports the Carrera T exterior package with more Gentian Blue accents and a hood stripe. The graphics are a bit much for my taste, but fortunately I didn’t see much of them from the driver’s seat.

“There is a bit of irony with this manual transmission. It’s that the engine has so much torque you don’t really have to do a lot of shifting. Third and fourth gear really gets a lot of the work done and even up into 5th gear you can pass. You don’t have to downshift. But that is the beauty of a manual transmission. It’s why we all love them. It’s up to you. You can shift as much as your heart desires.”

The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T is available for order now with a starting price of $135,995 dollars after destination charges. For more on the Carrera T and others, keep it locked right here on MotorWeek!
