There’s a new electric vehicle brand on the block, and it’s coming out of Vietnam: VinFast has launched their global EV brand with the VF e35 and VF e36 SUVs at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

In order to carve out their latest models, VinFast enlisted the help of Italian car design firm Pininfarina. The VF e35 was designed under the principle of “Dynamic Balance,” and as such features a mix of sharp and curved lines. The VF e36 is larger than it’s costar-- with a longer, taller profile. Despite this, it remains aerodynamic thanks to a sloping roofline and special “Air Curtains” in the hood and front end. They help redirect air away from high drag areas.

“VinFast believes that the 'Future of Mobility' will be one of smart electric cars that are highly personalized and integrated with technologies that benefit life and our environment,” said Michael Lohscheller, CEO of VinFast Global. “These vehicles will do so while meeting safety standards and delivering superior and comfortable driving experiences."

Both models are equipped with VinFast’s Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). This suite includes Lane Assist, Collision Warning, Driver Monitoring, Fully Automated Parking, Summon Vehicle and more. Additional tech is introduced by way of a Smart Infotainment system, delivering Voice and Virtual Assistants and E-Commerce services.

This introduction in LA acts as their first step into the international EV market. In the coming months, VinFast is expected to expand into Canada and Europe; US sales will initiate with preorders during the first half of 2022, with vehicles reaching consumers later that same year.

VinFast was founded in 2017 as a member of Vingroup, a technology, industry and service conglomerate. VinFast seeks to dominate the international smart EV market after their domestic success, including a 90 percent automation in Hai Phong, Vietnam.
