Porsche 911 Carrera T Debuts for 2023
The Porsche 911 family is growing by one more: the 2023 Carrera T, back for the 992 generation, and packing a manual transmission, more performance features and a little less weight.
The T stands for “Touring,” which signifies the changes made to enhance the Carrera’s performance and driving experience. This is important to note, especially for those that may be quick to associate the 20th letter of the alphabet with the word “Turbo,” though there is a pair of turbos present in its powertrain; but we’ll come back to that.
Starting with the Carrera T-specifics, this model is packaged with a seven-speed manual transmission as standard which, as you don’t need us to tell you, will inevitably make it more engaging, be it track or highway tarmac. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, an electronic damping system which constantly adjusts to road conditions, is included as standard, as is the Sport Chrono package. Ride height is reduced by 10mm when compared to the standard 911 Carrera.
Speaking of reductions, the Carrera T ends up weighing 3,254 lbs, 100 lbs lighter than a standard 911 Carrera. These weight savings are made in a few key areas; most notably, the standard rear seat delete. You’ll also find thinner glass and a more compact battery, and sound insulation has also been reduced, letting more decibels in.
The Carrera T’s harmonics are produced by the 911 Carrera’s twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, capable of putting down 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. The T will also rock a mechanical limited slip differential outfitted with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), a feature seen standard on the 911 Carrera S. It all boils down to a 0-60 mph time of 4.3-seconds; though the no-cost PDK transmission can sprint a little faster at 3.8 seconds. Top track speed clocks in at 181 mph.
“The new 911 Carrera T is made for driving enthusiasts” reads part of the official press release, and at a cursory glance we have to agree. Slotted between the 911 Carrera and Carrera S, the 2023 Porsche Carrera T will reach dealers this coming spring, starting at $118,050 after the $1,450 destination charge.
