Mercedes-Maybach Reveals Their New Ultra-Luxury S-Class Sedan
Mercedes-Maybach officially takes the cover off of their 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC Sedan. We had the opportunity to see the newest Maybach badged S-Class in person earlier this month while getting our first drive in the all-new 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600.
And while it might look a bit similar to a standard S-Class at first glance, further inspection reveals plenty of Maybach badging and an additional 7-inches of wheelbase. Plus, you can’t miss the Maybach specific grille it shares with the GLS 600. And unique to the Maybach S-Class, a strip of trim lines the engine hood and leads to the standing Mercedes-Benz star.
Under that hood is a 4.0L V8 biturbo engine that cranks out 496 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. Mercedes-Benz uses their EQ Boost 48-volt mild hybrid system which helps with efficiency and adds a few more horsepower. All of this is paired with the 9G-TRONIC 9-Speed automatic and Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel drive is standard. While it might not be available at launch, a V12 engine option is said to be on the way.
Inside has even more Maybach badging and tons of luxury. The MBUX system is updated for a new generation that is even faster and includes Augmented Reality Head-Up Display that literally displays navigation queues onto the road as you’re driving. When it comes to audio, the Burmester® High-End 4D Surround Sound System has 30 speakers and gives you the ability to truly customize your listening experience.
A five-seat configuration comes standard but the even more luxurious 4-seat configuration is available as an option for those who don’t dart in and out of the back seat but rather want to enjoy the Maybach’s lavish comforts while being chauffeured. An optional refrigeration compartment is available along with champagne flutes and champagne flute holders.
Mercedes-Maybach adds a new driving mode aptly named “Maybach” which is optimized for driving with rear passengers. But this Maybach S-Class wasn’t just designed to be chauffeured in. Mercedes says they have improved the ride quality for owners who plan to spend ample time behind the wheel themselves.
Other goodies include optional two-tone paint combinations, Maybach-specific scents, 64-color ambient lighting, and tons of driver assistance technologies.
Pricing has yet to be released. The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC Sedan will be available mid-2021.
