Honda Prologue; All-New and All Electric
Honda is plugging deeper into the electric SUV market with the 2024 Prologue, an all-new entry for the brand as it continues to electrify its diverse lineup.
The Prologue is Honda’s first foray into the pure battery-electric SUV market, after earlier launching a short-range Clarity BEV passenger car in 2016. The Prologue platform was co-developed with General Motors using their Ultium battery technology and is expected to make North American landfall in 2024.
However, an all-new CR-V Hybrid is poised as a gateway vehicle when it launches this October. “We are not going to wait until 2024 to attract EV buyers, because we see a natural progression for a CR-V customer to Prologue with its slightly larger size, larger interior and capable handling,” said Gary Robinson, vice president, automobile planning and strategy at American Honda. “We will support that transition now by putting smart strategies in place with the CR-V hybrid, that will enable our customers to transition to an EV.”
Designed by Honda’s team in Los Angeles, the Prologue follows a “Neo-Rugged” design direction both inside and out; a modern appearance with “clean and simple surfacing.” From the teaser images released, the new EV does appear quite sleek with little obstructions on the body. Taking cues from natural elements and beauty, an exclusive color, North Shore Pearl, is said to have been inspired by the natural beauty of California’s Lake Tahoe, and the interior colors have drawn from the imagery of freshly fallen snow on mountains.
The rear tailgate displays a new take on the automaker’s nameplate: a modern font displaying the Honda name in full, as opposed the typical “H” badging. The Prologue will also adopt the brand’s e: series badging for obvious reasons.
We have been given some of the Prologue’s dimensions: a wheelbase of 121.8-inches supporting an overall length of 192-inches. Expect a 78.3-inch width and 64.7-inch height, riding on 21-inch wheels. For context, that’s about 8-inches longer and 5-inches wider than the 2023 CR-V. Interior space has not been confirmed, but the words “roomy” and “generous” were used to describe it in official press assets. The cabin’s digital real estate is defined by an 11-inch driver display and 11.3-inch infotainment panel.
As of now, Honda intends to roll out the Prologue in 2024, followed by the sale of Honda e:Architecture vehicles produced in North America in 2026. The following year, 2027, will see “a new series of affordable EVs co-developed with GM, also produced by Honda in North America.”
