2023 Ford Super Duty F-350 Limited

The Ford F-Series is one of the most recognizable families in the truck world, thanks in part to the Super Duty nameplate, now entering an all-new generation for the 2023 model year.

The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty has been redesigned inside and out, providing more options, greater configurability and more technology for this latest iteration. In fact, Ford is claiming the new Super Duty is targeting “the most towing, payload, torque and horsepower of any heavy-duty full-size truck.”

That starts with the powertrain, headlined by four available engines; a new 6.8-liter V8 gasoline engine is packaged as standard, followed by a 7.3-liter V8. Of course, what’s Super Duty without diesel? Two Power Stroke engines are available, a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 and a new high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8, the latter of which is bolstered by a unique turbo, upgraded exhaust manifolds and special tuning.

Horsepower and torque figures are yet to be confirmed on any of the aforementioned power plants. In either case, expect it to be mated to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission; standard is rear-wheel drive, though 4×4 is optional.

Dimensionally speaking, the new Super Duty is certainly large: 231.8 inches as a Regular Cab; SuperCabs range from 238.2- to 254.4-inches depending on short or long wheelbase; Crew Cabs follow a similar trend with 250-inches and 266.2-inches of length respectively. Regular Cabs are given an 8-foot bed; on both the SuperCab and Crew Cab, the short wheelbase receives a 6 3/4 -foot bed whereas the long wheelbase models receive an 8-foot bed. The tailgate has a couple tricks of its own, including a tailgate down camera and sensors. Even with the tailgate down, a proper reverse image can be displayed, and visual and audio alerts can be relayed to the operator.

Upfront, the Super Duty is spearheaded by updated C-clamp lighting and seven new grilles. Along the sides are functional vents, said to reduce under-hood air pressure for better aero. Further changes are made by way of various trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. STX, Sport, and Black Appearance packages are also available, as is the new XL Off-Road Package and Tremor Off-Road Package.

Towing is a must-need feature of a proper truck, and the new Super Duty delivers with a handful of additional features and smart technologies. For example, onboard scales help estimate cargo bed weight, and a smart hitch can display trailer tongue weight on the center infotainment screen. A 360-degree trailer camera system makes hauling and backing-in a camper that much easier. Speaking of backing up and trailering, a Pro Trailer Hitch Assist feature will automatically back the truck up and align it with the hitch ball.

A common sight at a jobsite is an upfitted truck, decked out with all the gadgets and tools necessary for the tasks at hand. The new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System looks to make the upfitting process easier, offering a digital system for aftermarket equipment makers who need improved access into the Super Duty’s electrical system and signals. Digital buttons can even be integrated into the Super Duty’s cabin, making control more streamlined.

The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty is slated to be built at the Kentucky (or, for today only, KenTRUCKy) Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio. Pricing details will be confirmed closer to launch, currently epxted in early 2023.
