Ford GT MK IV is the Track-Only Send-Off it Deserves
The third-generation Ford GT supercar will soon end its run, and the Blue Oval is sending it off with a track-only GT MK IV.
By now, everyone knows the story of the original Ford GT40 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. The models present in the iconic First-Second-Third finish were actually GT40 MKII’s, and by 1967 Ford was testing the original MK IV.
This new model pays homage to that original iteration through a track-focused package offering “the Ford GT’s highest-levels of performance, handling and advanced technology.” Headlining performance is a specially engineered twin-turbo EcoBoost engine, aiming to produce 800+ horsepower, sent through a race transmission.
Of course, the carbon fiber “long tail” body designed for the new MK IV is dominated by aero-conscious additions, including the large wing flanking the aft end. Beneath it is a large slotted diffuser encapsulated by a unique rear end. The front end receives its own upgrades, including the large front splitter and bumper-mounted canards.
It all rides on a special chassis with a longer wheelbase, offering greater track potency. Cornering capabilities are further aided by Multimatic’s Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) suspension setup. Speaking of, the new Ford GT MK IV will be hand-built at Multimatic’s facility in Markham, Ontario.
“Multimatic’s brief was to create the most extreme final version of the Ford GT, and the Mk IV is the outcome,” said Larry Holt, executive vice president, Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations Group. “A unique larger displacement engine, proper racing gearbox, stretched wheelbase and truly radical body has resulted in an unprecedented level of performance. We are proud to have been a part of the third-generation GT from its inception to this amazing swan song and consider it a significant chapter in Multimatic’s history.”
For any interested buyers of this $1.7 million supercar, a new client application process is available and must be completed in order to be considered. Just 67 units are to be built, celebrating the original 1967 MK IV, with customer deliveries expected late spring 2023.
